I am the fourth of six children in a family with deep roots in the northwwest. My business is in Bellingham, WA and I live in a great old Lynden farmhouse near the Canadian border with my wife, Carmielle, of nearly 34 years. She has patiently endured countless (ad)ventures with me which included a gift shop we opened and she ran less than a year after we were married in which we sold stuff I butchered in my wood shop at home.
I was barely tweny when we were married and had already decided I was too smart for College. The College agreed. We have three grown children and three grandchildren.
I ruffled through my old business card collection the other day and counted nearly 30. It is not as bad as it sounds because I had cards made for everything, including when I was a paper boy and did the neighbors lawn.
I have been self employed most of my life, often in partnerships of some structure, twice with family. My current busness is a corporation and I own 100% of the shares (nobody else wanted any) but I have close mentors and employees who function much as partners.
I learned a great lesson about the value of partnerships when I owned a bakery and deli with my older brother, Neal in the 1980’s. I will write about it later as this develops.
I talk too much and listen poorly so the BLOG is a natural for me. It is my impression that the good ones are not filtered, pretty free flowing and occassionaly messy. I will try to make it a site with some value. I invite you to help.
